WELCOME to the web site for DFW Golden Retriever
Breeders. We are a group of Golden Retriever Breeders in the
Dallas - Fort Worth,
Texas area who have joined together to help loving families
locate well-bred, healthy, well-socialized Golden Retriever
puppies to become
part of their family. Finding the right Golden
puppy for your family can
be a daunting task. We hope to help you in your search.
All breeders listed on this site are members in
good standing of the
Dallas-Ft. Worth Metro Golden
Retriever Club and are members in good standing of the
Golden Retriever Club of America.
All the breeders on this page are committed to not only placing their puppies and dogs in the
right home, but to educating the puppy-buying public about the Golden
Retriever. This is a privately-owned web site and not under
the authority or auspices of any organization.
This site was created in the hope of educating you on how to pick a
healthy, well-socialized puppy, what to look for in a reputable breeder,
and how to find the perfect pet for your family. Please also be
aware that not all breeders who are members of the Dallas-Ft. Worth
Metro Golden Retriever Club participate in this web site.
Participation in this website is at the discretion of
the web site owner and the other
breeders listed herein.
Whether or not you buy a Golden Retriever from one of
our group, we hope to be able to educate you a little bit about what to
look for and how to find it. Do yourself a favor and read the
information on this site before you acquire a precious baby furface.
The breeders on this site all participate in some
type of competition with their dogs -- conformation (dog shows),
Obedience, Hunt/Field, Agility, Tracking, etc. They are serious
about furthering the purpose of the Golden retriever.
Most of the breeders listed on this site do not breed extensively. Some of
them don't breed until they have a waiting list of new homes. They
may not have a puppy available immediately. Do not be in a hurry.
If getting a Golden, any Golden, RIGHT NOW, is foremost in your plans,
then you are not serious and will get what you ask for -- just any
Golden. You should read books on the breed and even attend dog shows or
obedience trials to talk to Golden owners and breeders and LEARN.
A Few Quick Things to Consider Before You Acquire
a Golden...
-
The Golden Retriever is a people-oriented breed.
Golden Retrievers should not be relegated to the backyard. Goldens
who are not allowed to interact with their people can get bored, which
causes problems -- digging, jumping the fence, tearing up landscape,
chewing (the fence, the house, the garden hose, etc.) If you are
not prepared to let the Golden live with your family, please consider a different,
more independent breed.
-
Golden Retrievers shed. There's no getting
around it. If you are not prepared to vacuum golden hair off
the floor, your furniture, and your clothes, maybe you should
consider a different breed.
-
The Golden Retriever is subject to several health
issues. Consider this before you acquire one. Your
puppy's purchase price may be a smidgen of what you spend over its
lifetime. Think ahead to 10-15 years of veterinary bills and the
importance of choosing a puppy whose ancestors have been screened
for common health issues which have a genetic basis. Get more
information about health issues
here.
-
Remember: You are adding a new member to your
family for the next 10-15 years. NOW IS NOT THE TIME TO BARGAIN
HUNT!! Be prepare to spend $2500-3500 for a well-bred,
healthy puppy. The breeders listed on this site do not cut
corners breeding and raising their puppies. The expense in
breeding dogs is extensive. Reputable breeders do not breed
for profit. They generally breed to improve the breed and to
acquire a puppy for themselves. The old saying "You Get What
You Pay For" is so very true when looking for a puppy.
-
AKC registration simply means the sire and dam of
your Golden Retriever are the same breed. It does NOT guarantee
health, temperament, structural soundness, or breeding quality.
